• glittering extravaganza：盛大，華麗，眾星雲集的盛典
█ 雖然有比賽場館來不及完工的疑慮 城市的基礎建設老舊可能無法支撐如此大批觀眾湧入的擔憂，但看來倫敦正按部就班準備完成使命。
Despite fears that the venues would not be ready on time, that the city's creaking infrastructure would not be capable of dealing with such an influx of visitors, it appears that London is on track to deliver.
• 這句可以簡化看成：Despite fears that X…, that Y…, it appears that London is on track to deliver.
► that子句修飾fears (擔憂)，在此述說了X和Y兩種fears
• venue：集會的場地 (音樂會，體育場館等)
• creaking：嘎嘎作響的，不能支撐的意思(形容詞)
• infrastructure：基礎建設 (名詞)
influx： 湧入 (名詞 –用單數) an influx of visitors 湧入參觀的人
deliver： 動詞，在此不是”送貨” 而是履行諾言，完成交付的使命
on track： 按部就班，在軌道上 (片語)
█ 國際奧運委員會 (國際奧會，International Olympic Committee) 已經給予期中認可，大部分的場地已經接近最後完工階段。
The International Olympic Committee has already given an interim thumbs up, with most venues at an advanced stage of completion.
• thumbs up：片語，翹拇指表示贊同的手勢 (這個片語看成一個單位)
► 前面可加 ‘a’，a thumbs up
give a thumbs up給予贊同
• interim：期中的 (形容詞)
